One handbag

DSCN1265

I am a one-handbag girl. I like to keep everything in the same place, same handbag. It makes leaving the house a lot easier!

I don't switch between multiple handbags depending on my outfit. I own this handbag, a rucksack and a couple of others that rarely see the light of day; a small leather bag for special occasions, a holiday bag, and a small holiday cross-body purse.

This is my day-to-day bag, the one that comes with me everywhere I go. Trust me, there would be stress if I even considered switching between bags, and further stress once out because I would be checking whether I had everything.

A view of the inside:

It has two main sections, and a zip-pouch in the middle. It's a nice size for my day-to-day handbag needs.

Here is what I keep in it:

I'll admit that I often accumulate more (who doesn't?) but these are the essentials that I like to carry with me.

I'm pretty used to having one good handbag. It works well, and keeps things simple.  I don't think I'll ever go back to having more than one for daily use. I would like to get one of these though.

I am considering extending the idea of "one is enough":

-One pen

-one each of bowl, plate, mug, cutlery (less washing up!!)

How about you? Would you consider having just one of something? Maybe it's something you do already?

  1. Ah, you see; as a man, I can simplify this even more... By removing the bag and simply using pockets! :-P

On a serious note, I like the idea that 'one is enough'.

In my mind though, restricting yourself to only one item of cutlery (etc.) implies more frequent dish-washing, as you need to keep them clean. I imagine it could add quite a 'routine' to every day life but, maybe I'm over-thinking.

Do you think you'd become 'possessive' of each other's items? I mean, when you get home and your mug is still unwashed from the morning, would there be a temptation to 'borrow' the clean mug in the cupboard, which belongs to your partner? I only wonder this because I've always had to have 'my own' mugs... When someone accidentally poured me a drink inside another, I would refuse to drink from it.

I try to minimise my own clothes collection (you might notice that some day) and would like to be able to limit myself to a single pair of shoes and one coat. But, I do need extras of each for walking and I have a thick coat that I love wearing in winter. At the same time, it's too much for summer and so, I feel I 'need' a third coat that isn't my cheap waterproof...

Welcome to WordPress. I like the clean layout and I hope my mountain of words has done nothing to clutter this space... :-P

  2. Hello Brandon! Nice to see you here.

You're right, restricting ourselves to one spoon, fork, knife would create the need to wash it up straight away so we could use it again. But I think, in the long run, it would lead to less piles of washing up forming on the counter. Currently, we just use up the cutlery until everything is dirty, and then have to undertake a mammoth washing up session. I have tried the one spoon, fork, knife before, and it did work, until I brought all the other cutlery back! I have my own set, that was given to me, and my partner had his own.

We actually have our own mugs anyway, and we never drink out of each others' mugs. So there would be no temptation to borrow his.

It's great that you want to simplify your clothes collection. I currently live with 33 items of clothing (incl coats, bags, shoes) for every 3 month period - no one has noticed yet! I think it's fine to have different coats/shoes for walking, as they are used most for that purpose. certainly no harm in it. I have several pairs of shoes ;)

Thank you. It's good to be here. I much prefer the look of my new blog, and hopefully I've created a space to focus on the content rather than bright flashy designs. :)

  3. Hi Linda.
    Cute bag!!
I love the idea about: One is it!
My bag is black - a Furla bag, bought it on sale in Italy 3 years ago. - Use it everyday, greate size and a "sporty-model", goes with everything. It has a long strap that you can take away, and use it also like a handbag.
    And yes - I payed about 175 pounds/ 1600 danish crowns.
Some might thing that is a great lot of money ..(Me too..) But 3 years, and still looking good.

  4. Hi!
Thanks! I got this one from a charity shop, but I bought it because it's a good brand, and I like it too :)

I've just looked up Furla bags, and they look very classic. It's a lot of money, but it works out cheaper I think in the long run when you don't have to buy one every year. I have a pair of boots that I have had for 4 years and they still look great. You get value for the money by buying something that you use every day, and I'm impressed that you've had it 3 years! that's great. It's great to find the one piece that you can use every single day :)
