Adventures in Hope Valley
I went on a solo adventure this weekend, to the rather aptly named Hope Valley in Derbyshire, UK.
There are lots of changes going on in this house, and I feel the name captures my feelings around these changes rather nicely. It was a beautiful weekend. I went to my best friend's wedding, alone, 180 miles away. I camped, soaked in the view, and indulged in some photography while I was there.
I wanted to share some photos from the weekend with you, but couldn't choose between them! So here they are.
These photos are taken with my Canon EOS 1100D DSLR.
I am working on a post about travelling alone, something I haven't done in over 2 years. It was incredibly refreshing and empowering, and I'd like to capture that in an essay soon.
What adventures have you been on lately? I'd love to hear from you in the comments!

Beautiful photos :) It is nice to travel with people, but I don't think there's anything with more opportunity to grow than travelling alone - you can learn so much :)
ReplyDeleteHi Charlotte, thank you for popping over! good to see you here. I hope you're doing well in Plymouth! I just found your blogs too, and have subscribed, I knew about the food blog but not the other one! awesome.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I love taking photos, I think I'm more drawn to landscapes. I love the countryside!
yes, even on such a short trip (2 nights) I felt immense benefits from it, and look forward to exploring that in another post soon.
Thanks for reading!
...You're making me want a new camera now!! :-D
ReplyDeleteI saw your other photos and it looks like you were able to have a lot of fun with your camera. Photograhy can be a way of expressing ourselves and I get the sense that you greatly benefited from this experience.
Were you anywhere near Edale? The walking group were camping there on the same weekend. It's definitely an area I'd like to see as well.
As you know, I've been thinking about my own solo adventure (or two) in the next couple of months. I'll probably end up in a B&B as I haven't slept in a tent for about 20 years (wow, that makes me sound old!!). As you also know, I'm prone to my own solo walking adventures, which can be rewarding in their own right... I look forward to taking that next step! :-)
I also look forward to seeing your next post on travelling alone. Does this mean you're thinking of keeping your car?
Hehe, a DSLR is nice but I think you can still take good photos with a compact. I guess I'm just more willing to practise now! Yes, photography has become a form of journalling for me, I like the contrast with reams of paper.
ReplyDeleteYes, very close to Edale, a few miles I should think. It really is lovely up there.
B&B's are nice too, for a first trip you don't want to make it too stressful if you haven't pitched a tent in years!
We will keep the car until we feel like we don't use it anymore, I think. Despite the recent cost of repairs it is fairly economical. Hiring a car is pretty cheap these days, so that could be an option to look into as well.
