My resident perfectionist declared that if I couldn't find prompts 12 and 13, I wouldn't do the challenge at all. Hmm, naughty perfectionist.
I've since had a word, and we agreed that I would have a look at my photos, and post the ones that I did remember during my adventures in August. Plus, I rooted through my vast collection of photos since April, and found some that fit the prompts. So, bending the challenge a little, here is a rather epic collection of photos from my summer.

Perhaps the blurred character of this photo fits my concept of home rather well. I don't really know if I've found home, but this is as close as I get to feeling "at home". Sitting in my chair with my journal or some crochet, feeling the fresh breeze on my face.

Stillness in the deer sanctuary (no entry to the public), on the outskirts of my city.
[caption id="attachment_794" align="aligncenter" width="560"] Day 15 - books[/caption]
I have begun to amass a rather large collection of non-fiction, most of which are unread. I'm looking forward to digging into these, one by one, and journalling my way through them. Some of them I've read, but they deserve re-reading.

A day out with a good friend.

I found this stashed away in an old frame. My foot and hand-prints from when I was 4. Unfortunately, the paper was covered in mould, and had to be chucked. But, I saved it on an SD card instead.

I will have the cottage in the background, thanks.
[caption id="attachment_788" align="aligncenter" width="560"] Day 20 - taste[/caption]
Also my birthday. These were birthday pancakes with maple syrup, banana and strawberries. Divine!

I'm pretty sure I have a pretty notebook-pen-pencil-washi addiction. I love them.

What does "home" mean to you? Where is home?
I'm very much interested in your responses. I'd love to know what the concept of home means to you.

Beautiful pics, of course, Linda, and thought-provoking question!
ReplyDelete"Home" is an interesting concept for me, as we have given away the house we owned, moved far away from the only state we've ever lived in, and leased an apartment that we probably won't live in for a year. I would say that home is wherever my husband and daughter are with me.
Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI love your concept of home. I think mine would come close to that, but I may explore it in another post!
I was born in a different country, and have moved back and forth, and between different cities in the UK!
Really nice photos and I know which line of text is my favourite - thank you. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, I wouldn't have noticed the cottage in 19 had you not pointed it out in your caption! That's quite alarming but I share your preference. There's so much unecessary architecture on our planet... I've quite enjoyed hearing about this 'car-melting, walkie-talkie tower' in London these last couple of days.
A very good question. I think it's easier for me to define home as it's never really shifted any great deal from its current perception. For someone like yourself though, who has relocated several times and over considerable distance, I can only imagine how 'unsettled' you might feel at times.
To me, home is that place that allows you to be yourself and to unwind when you need to. Shelter from this fast-paced, crazy world. Sanctuary from the daily grind with the potential to create. A place that only you know well. It's not always but those are a few of the things I like it to be.
You're welcome Olly.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day out! :)
Yes, I did find that odd and amusing that a reflection managed to melt a car. hmm. I guess that says something about the modern world..
Yes, home is no longer just where I live. That has changed so many times, that I can't possibly feel like they are all my home. I like your reference to a sanctuary, and a place to create. I think I feel that way in my little den in my flat (blurry photo above).
Thanks for your input! :)
Oh that photo of home resonates with me. My feelings are mixed, too. Where I'm from, where I live, where I have friends still... any one of those places can feel like home to me. I don't have one answer that fits neatly. The best description of home for me is where my husband and kids are.
ReplyDeleteHey Britt, thank you so much for taking the time to visit! :D
ReplyDeleteI think I'm the same, there are many different places that I could consider home.
I think yours is a good one, where loved ones are is where home is. My friend gave me a magnet with a great quote once. "Wherever you are, it is your friends who make your world". I think that's true of friends, and of loved ones/family too.
